Coffee Table

This trestle leg coffee table is unique in many ways. It was made with reclaimed English Oak floor boards which were up-cycled from an old Victorian house and given a second life. It was inspired by Japanese philosophy and joinery techniques as it is built without metal screws or metal fasteners. The top is attached via an age-old technique utilising a sliding dovetail joint which allows the wood to expand and contract seasonally and incorporates a wedged through tenon which is designed to be taken apart and put back together again. Hand-cut “butterflies” are precisely chiseled in to brace fractures in the old timber boards thus preventing them from further fracturing.

The oak base has been oxidised to create a contrast with the top and It has been hand finished with a natural hard wax oil. The dimensions are (L)1040 x (W)610 x (H)430.
